New Gloucester Safety Building
Bunker and Savage Architects contracted with SJR Engineering to assist with application materials and project site design for the “New Gloucester Public Safety Building”. Use of the building is for public safety, housing fire trucks and related apparatus within a garage area. A portion of the building is reserved for meeting rooms, offices, kitchen area, and bunk rooms for public safety personnel. The building is served by a well, small septic system, and underground electricity. Accommodating the heating needs with above ground gas and cooling needs with air conditioning units are integral components of the building plan.
Site amenities include a detailed landscaping plan, and three larger paved parking lots (1.75 acre, 59 total spaces with 4 handicap spaces) with complete 360 degree access around the building. A gravel area for fire department training exercises is constructed on the northern side of the building. The driveway entrance is separated by a raised concrete island allowing adequate turning movements from and onto Route 100.
